Newcastle upon Tyne, formerly the county town of Northumberland, is located in the North East of England in the county of Tyne and Wear. It is the 20th largest city in England in terms of population. Newcastle is best known perhaps for its famous bridges, in particular the Tyne Bridge which is seen as a symbol of the city.

The city has recently seen a large amount of restoration in its city centre to recondition its neoclassical architecture, leading to Grey Street becoming known as one of England’s finest streets.
Some of the former docks have been regenerated into office blocks, bars and restaurants and consequently the Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside is now a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.
On the outskirts of the city lies Antony Gormley's famous sculpture The Angel of the North, standing 20 metres tall, 54 metres wide and weighing 110 tons. It is one of the county’s most visible structures due to the A1’s passing traffic and the East Coast Main Line running close by.
