Durham is a picturesque city located in the North East of England enclosed on three sides by the River Wear. Its most famous landmark is undoubtedly the cathedral which sits atop the highest of Durham's many hills.

It was built from 1093 onwards and houses the remains of The Venerable Bede and St Cuthbert.
The city has an ancient history with proof of a settlement here since approximately 2000 BC, and habitation of the current city since 995 AD when a number of Lindisfarne monks founded a church in Durham.
The city itself has over 600 listed buildings, the majority of which are located within the city centre, which in its entirety has been designated a conservation area. Aside from the cathedral, Grade I listed buildings of note include Durham Castle, Chorister School, Kingsgate Bridge and Kepier Hospital.
